Lomonosov Oriental Studies Journal (Vestnik of Moscow University. Series 13: Oriental Studies) is a peer reviewed scholarly journal devoted to Asian and African studies. It publishes original research papers by Russian and international scholars, as well as translations of rare texts from Oriental languages and editions of primary sources/archival materials accompanied by scholarly commentary. Recent issues are structured into interdisciplinary sections such as History, Linguistics, Literary Studies, Political Science and Economics; the journal also regularly features Reviews, bibliographic surveys and a Scholarly Life section (conference and round table reports), thus covering both fundamental and topical research agendas in contemporary Oriental studies.

Aims and Objectives

The journal aims to publish academically significant and topical materials that correspond to the journal’s thematic focus and meet scholarly standards in Oriental studies. Its objectives include supporting scholarly communication through the regular presentation of research results, as well as advancing professional debate by publishing reviews and bibliographic surveys. In addition, the journal contributes to the development of the scholarly community by publishing materials that reflect academic life: information on scholarly events, round tables, and conferences relevant to the journal’s profile.

Audience

The journal’s audience includes researchers, lecturers, and academic staff working in Oriental studies and related disciplines (history, philology and linguistics, literary studies, political science, and economics), as well as PhD students and Master’s students in relevant fields who are interested in current academic approaches and pressing issues concerning the regions of Asia and Africa. Thanks to its combination of research articles, reviews, and sections related to academic life, the journal is also of practical interest to professionals who engage in expert reading of scholarly literature on the East (including libraries and research centres).
